Positioning with linear motors
Linear motors are suitable for applications with high speed requirements. The motors consist of two separate parts, the magnetic housing and the coil. An applied voltage causes the motor to move in one direction. By reversing the polarity, the motor moves in the opposite direction. As it is an external drive, the Micronix linear motor (coil) axes are not quite as space-saving as the piezo driven ones.
