mirSense
Founded in 2015, the French deep tech company mirSense develops and manufactures ultra-precise, miniaturized quantum cascade lasers (QLC) for the mid-infrared range. With three locations in Paris-Saclay, Montpellier, and Grenoble, mirSense covers the entire laser manufacturing process — from QCL production and design and modeling of laser chips to electronic assembly and sensor manufacturing with system integration.
The distributed feedback (DFB) QCLs from mirSense are available in a wavelength range from 10 to 19 µm (from approx. 1000 to 530 cm-1). The wavelength range unique to QCL is based on a technology for which mirSense holds the exclusive license. Their Fabry-Pérot QCLs, on the other hand, emit in the two transmission bands of the atmosphere, namely from 3 to 5 µm (= 3333 to 2000 cm⁻¹) and from 8 to 12 µm (= 1250 to 833 cm⁻¹).
Possible fields of application of the QCLs are:
- Research and development
- Molecular spectroscopy, e.g., for the detection of BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene), nitrogen compounds (e.g., ammonia and nitrous oxide), and many other interesting chemical compounds,
- Defense (ITAR-free, e.g., installation in aircraft or helicopters)
- Industry and environmental monitoring
