Collimated Modular MIC-LED Light Sources

Prizmatix’s collimated Mic-LED light sources, with their small, high-performance LED chips, are suitable for applications that require good collimation and high optical performance. This makes them ideal, for example, for fluorescence excitation in upright and inverted fluorescence microscopes.

They consist of a separate controller and a compact, highly robust optical head that houses the actual LED chip and the collimating optics. Their modular design makes it easy to combine multiple LED heads via beam combiners to create a custom lighting system. In fluorescence microscopy, for example, they offer a long-lasting alternative to metal halide and mercury lamps, providing high optical performance in the desired wavelength ranges.

Various excitation wavelengths are available; these can be found in the table under “Spectra & Performance.” Each Mic-LED is shipped with a test report detailing its total beam power and emission spectrum.

Mic-LED’s BLCC-04 controller allows the LED light source to be controlled via an analog input, a TTL input, USB, or — in the traditional way — manually using a potentiometer. USB control, in particular, makes these light sources an ideal solution for microscopy or research applications, since many programs — such as µManager, LabVIEW, MATLAB, and many others—can control the LEDs directly, or the light sources can be integrated into custom scripts.
