Specto Photonics
Founded in Milan in 2019, deep tech startup Specto Photonics aims to make Brillouin spectroscopy accessible to everyone. Specto develops and commercializes Brillouin filters and miniaturized on-chip Brillouin spectrometers. The ultra-compact spectrometers are intended to replace large optical components with a more compact, portable, affordable, and powerful design.
Optical Brillouin spectroscopy provides mechanical information, such as the stiffness or viscosity of different materials. Due to its completely optical and contact-free measurement, this method is ideally suited for examining living samples. The mechanical properties (stiffness and viscosity) are important parameters, especially in mechanobiology, as they can detect changes in biological cells and tissues and thus contribute to the early detection of diseases. Furthermore, Brillouin spectroscopy can be used to obtain three-dimensional information and perform measurements with high accuracy and resolution.
Brillouin spectroscopy is an ideal solution for applications in the fields of life sciences, materials science, and medicine.
