Jireh Scientific Imaging: Low noise spectroscopy camera at low price

by Kathrin Beckstein

The Zion camera from the US manufacturer Jireh Scientific was specially developed for low-noise spectroscopy applications. The CCD detector with 1024x256 pixels measures 26.6 mm in width and 6.7 mm in height. Due to the thermoelectric cooling of up to 95 °C below the ambient temperature, a dark current of less than 0.0018 e/pix/sec is achieved. This makes the camera ideally suited for applications with low light conditions such as fluorescence, DNA sequencing or optical measurement of biological materials.

The compact design as well as customized mechanical adapters and mounting solutions for any spectrometer or monochromator allow a versatile and flexible range of applications for Zion. The device can be controlled and read out via USB 2.0 or Ethernet.
In addition, Zion has been designed to ensure that the camera remains affordable for customers with a smaller budget.
